Bolivia Mauricio Diez de Medina Peaberry
We would like to introduce you to one of the most unique coffees in existence. Mauricio Diez de Medina is the producer of the highest grown coffee in the world at a staggering 2,500 meters (over 8000 feet) above sea level. This remarkable elevation combined with deep, well-drained volcanic soil contributes to prolonging the development of the fruit from flowering to harvest. Mauricio’s farm averaged an 11 month harvest of their beautiful, dark, ripe coffee cherries this year. It is an amazing achievement growing coffee at such high elevation, and therefore rare to grow in such cool conditions: they average 55 degrees year-round! This long ripening of fruit leads to intensely sweet coffee with an elegance that is truly stunning. Mauricio’s farm processes his 100% Typica varietal coffee with a state-of-the-art drying machine invented on the farm. Mr. Medina is relatively new to coffee farming, but he has big ambitions and a deep passion for quality coffee. In 2009, Mr. Medina’s coffee won first place in the Cup of Excellence, garnering the highest price at auction from any origin last year and the highest price ever paid for a Bolivian coffee. We are ecstatic to share it with you.
Flavors of perfectly ripe donut peach, grape, fruit candy, guava, and lavish floral aromatics are balanced against a tea like acidity with a tight silky mouth-feel.
